Kia Ora,
It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks since stepping into my new role as your Executive Director, and I am thrilled with my journey so far! From engaging meetings with our esteemed members to getting acclimated to the vibrant energy of our Chamber community, every moment has been filled with excitement and promise.
I am delighted to announce that our upcoming Ball is sold out which is a massive reflection of the support of our members and business community. A huge thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and we can't wait to see you there!
Speaking of events, we have lots of exciting ones that promise to be both engaging and insightful - including Family Matters a thought-provoking session happening next Tuesday from 4 pm, where leading lawyers of Bankside Chambers and Drew & Napier will address essential international family law matters, trust fund structures, tax issues and more. The event is FREE for members, so do sign up for it.
Also, on the calendar is our New Members Networking Breakfast on Thursday, 20 August at 8 am. This is the perfect opportunity to meet and connect with fellow new members, build relationships, and expand your professional network. Be sure to register while there's still space.
Regards,
Melissa Holck

Tell us a bit about yourself: Before taking on the position at the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce, I dedicated nearly five years to the European Chamber of Commerce Singapore, where I held various responsibilities ranging from marketing and event coordination to office management and administrative tasks. This multifaceted role provided me with essential skills that have prepared me well for my current position.
How have you found your first week? With big shoes to fill, Tahsha and the team at the New Zealand Chamber have been amazing! Transitioning from my previous role at the European Chamber of Commerce to this vibrant organization has been nothing short of invigorating. The warmth and enthusiasm with which I've been welcomed by both the team and members has truly set the tone for an exciting journey ahead!
Any advice for doing business in Singapore and/or the region? I believe one of the keys to doing business in Singapore is building strong relationships within the business community by engaging in industry events and attending Chamber activities.
When did you move to Singapore and where from? I moved to Singapore in July 2019 just before COVID after spending 11 adventurous years in Jakarta. The infrastructure and efficiency of Singapore made for a smooth transition along with already having a well established circle of close friends in Singapore which really made a difference during the pandemic.
What’s your impression of New Zealand? Although I am not a Kiwi by birth, my connection to New Zealand runs deep through close friendships and memorable experiences, such as volunteer work and events with ANZA during my time in Jakarta as well as one of my children attending the New Zealand International School in Jakarta. These connections have given me a profound appreciation for Kiwi culture and values. Since starting at the Chamber, I've been struck by the warmth and inclusiveness of the Kiwi spirit.
Where were you born? What country do you call home? I was born in the USA where I grew up in Texas and spent many years in Illinois just west of Chicago before setting out on my expat adventures with the family. However, home base for the family is Denmark as we have a home and our youngest child living just outside of Copenhagen. |
