HAPPY NEW YEAR!
After a couple of restful weeks off (and running into Chamber members, Patrick and Maureen, in Melbourne), the board, Carina, and I are back in full swing, planning some great events and promotions for you, with 2024 remaining focused on our Chamber vision - to Connect, Promote and Grow.

| New Zealand Tax Update - By Des Trigg |
| Returning expats/business migrants to NZ often retain offshore income after moving to NZ.
That income may not be taxable in the country they left but is likely to be taxed in NZ. An exemption applies to most offshore passive income (e.g., interest, dividends, rents, pensions), regularly referred to as the "four-year" exemption. However, care is needed. The exemption period is 48 months from the date a person acquires a permanent place of abode in NZ. It is not based on calendar/fiscal or income years. Additionally, the exemption will not apply if the person has been an NZ resident within 10 years of acquiring a permanent place of abode in NZ.
